JOIN TROOP 738!

Troop 738 has been active for over 30 years and has a thriving, Scout-led program in the National Capital Area Council / Seneca District. Our goal is to foster a healthy, active, and safe environment where every youth is invited to learn, explore, and grow. We are a a Scouts BSA Troop (formerly Boy Scouts) within Scouting America, which is the parent organization chartered by Congress to serve our nation’s youth by instilling the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

The troop is chartered by St. Anne’s in Damascus, MD to serve young men grades 6-12 things like hiking/backpacking, wilderness survival, whitewater rafting, skiing or tubing, caving, biking, cooking, and more. As a Scout-led troop, our activities are planned by young leaders with coaching by trained adult volunteers who encourage, challenge, support, and celebrate the Scouts as they navigate the program.

Many of our Scouts stay with the program until they turn 18 and often achieve the Eagle Rank, which is the highest rank in Scouts BSA. However, the emphasis is always on the journey first, and Scouts are encouraged to fully engage with the skills, experiences, and challenges rather than see it as a race to Eagle.

Every summer, we organize at least two major long-term camping events: Summer Camp and High Adventure.

Summer Camp is open to all Scouts and is an opportunity to learn new skills, experience the outdoors, and earn merit badges in a structured program.

High Adventure is designed for older Scouts, typically ages 14+, who have mastered the basic skills of Scouting and are excited to grow through “challenge by choice”, preparing for and tackling unique, once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Scouting America has four High-Adventure Bases: Northern Tier (Minnesota, Manitoba, and Ontario), Philmont Scout Ranch (New Mexico), Sea Base (Florida), and Summit Bechtel Reserve (West Virginia). We have historically rotated through each base, allowing every member of the troop at least one opportunity to get to the 4 national high adventure camps.

Go to Cheddar Up to sign waivers, submit payments, and find other information about events.

Troop 738 is a Scouts BSA troop in the Damascus/Kemptown/Green Valley/Monrovia, MD area. We have an active, adventure-focused troop with an emphasis on developing strong youth leaders and outdoor skills.

We use the patrol method and in general we view the adults as mentors, logistics and safety. Scout leadership includes the Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and scouts that have moved on from patrol leader positions or are older and have attained (or almost) attained Eagle.
